The dematerialized Vitale card for all in 2025

Next year, the French should be able to dematerialize their Vitale card via a dedicated application or via France Identité. However, this will not be mandatory, and the physical Vitale card will obviously continue to be fully valid.

Today, the Carte Vitale application is being tested in around twenty departments. Thanks to contactless technology, it allows you to access the same services from your smartphone as the physical version, from professionals (medical consultation, dispensing of medication at the pharmacy, etc.) and healthcare establishments (interventions, hospitalization, etc.). The application also allows you to track healthcare expenses incurred. Unlike the physical Carte Vitale, the dematerialized Carte Vitale on this application is always up to date. The application is already available for free on Google Play (Android) and the App Store (iOS), but to be able to use it now, you must be over 16, have an ameli account and live in one of the 23 departments concerned by this test phase*. By the end of 2025, all insured persons should be able to use it, but the application will not replace the physical Vitale card, which should be kept with you.

But that's not all. According to Le Parisien , the government would also like to integrate the Vitale card into the France Identity application, developed by the National Agency for Secure Titles (ANTS) and which allows you to prove your identity online. The goal here would be to link your Vitale card directly to your electronic national identity card (CNIe), in their dematerialized versions. As a reminder, in addition to the identity card, it is also possible to integrate your dematerialized driving license.

In any case, the aim is to ensure that the user of a Vitale card is indeed its owner, with the aim of ultimately reducing fraud, without having to replace all the cards in circulation or merge them with identity cards.
